Things We Can’t Wait To Do Again

As just about everyone has said by now, we are living in crazy times.  Some of us are staying at home or working from home, while others are working on the front lines against the COVID-19 virus and trying to maintain some normalcy for us.  As we prepare for the long run, we at Onsite Detail want to reflect on the things we are looking forward to doing when we can roam around and be with others once more.  After all, like pandemics before, this too shall pass, and it’s fun to imagine the good things coming our way when it happens.

Going on Road Trips

While the idea of cooping up in a car or RV may not feel appealing to most of us right now, the sense of going somewhere new and seeing friends or family is definitely a must for when things go back to normal. Utah’s natural beauty is worth seeing each year; its canyons, lakes, mountains and natural arches deserve our admiration.  Even if your goal is to get out of Utah for a while, getting your vehicle ready in advance can help kindle that hope and keep the excitement alive.  You’ll be ready to go, so why delay your future trips by waiting for a car cleaning?

Taking a Flight

Planes right now have been reserved for emergencies and cargo transfer.  The borders to other countries have been closed for obvious safety reasons.  Those of us who long to go to other countries or have family in other parts of the world may feel trapped where we are, but this is also a good time to reflect on where you want to go.  Plane tickets are cheaper than they have been in a long time, and being at home may help pique ideas for future adventures.  We have a blog relating to traveling in a campervan that may help spark ideas!  If you have a plane, we can also help keep it clean and ready for the skies.

Going Back to Our Usual Hangouts

Okay, maybe work and school aren’t hangout spots, but we can’t deny we miss having places to go.  How many of us are ready for bookstores, recreation centers and museums to open up again?  Many of my coworkers who have kids have expressed that their kids miss having a class to go to and places to play with their friends.  No matter the age or place, all of us have spots we want to go to, if for no other reason than to be somewhere else and enjoying what it has to offer.  We almost can’t wait for our kids to make our cars messy with school projects again!

Getting a Haircut

Many of us have talked about wanting to get a haircut, shave, hair color, pedicure, etc. when everything is open again.  Barbers, stylists, and others who focus on self-care have been amongst the most hit when it comes to businesses being shut down.  We have had the privilege of taking care of their vehicles in the past, and we cannot wait to not only clean their cars again, but request appointments of our own!

Going Out to Eat

Many people are using their vehicles to make deliveries to us as we attempt to stay home.  Even trapped at home we may find that making meals can be a bit of a chore, especially as we deal with the stress of the pandemic.  We are pretty sure we’re not the only ones who look forward to the day when we can go out to eat at our favorite restaurants again.  Sitting down together trying something new or having something familiar is something we now can see as a luxury and appreciate with greater depth.

Seeing Our Loved Ones

This one ultimately goes without saying, but it is worth saying.  Utah is known for its large families, and suddenly not being able to see each other is difficult for most of us, sometimes even painful.  Grandparents having to stay safe are thankfully able to see their children and grandchildren through apps that let them see their loved ones, but we cannot wait for the day we can hug every member of our family again.  I know I will give my grandparents lots of hugs when I can!

Seeing Our Customers

Our business has a history of being fairly customer-interactive.  We may not be detailing the vehicle with you, but we enjoy showing you the finished job and learning a bit about our customers as we do our work.  The need to maintain distance is new for us, and while we gladly do Contact-Free work and have closed our shop for most services and customer waiting, we are ready for the day we can approach without a mask and show a smile instead.  We sincerely hope that you are all doing well, and if we can aid you in doing details on your vehicles, we are glad to do so.  The pandemic is stressful enough, so let us take care of the details during this crazy time.

Don’t Forget Your Vehicle and a Couple Helpful Cleaning Tips

What crazy times we live in, am I right? If you’re anything like me, you’ve taken steps to keep yourself and also members of your family safe and away from groups of people and situations that could put them at risk of being exposed to germs and any potential viruses and illnesses; or being carriers of said things. You may have been taking steps to further sanitize and disinfect your home. You may have also adjusted your mindset to be more mindful of the things that your hands come in contact with and also if those same hands are touching your face.

If I have learned anything within the last month, it has been to be more mindful of being clean and paying attention to things that my hands come in contact with. One of the first things that I thought of was my phone. Like many people, I use my phone many times a day. From social media, to texting, to phone calls, and listening to podcasts. That’s not even including the work related uses. Bottom line is that nowadays, most people use their phones everyday for many purposes.

When you think about the things you touch on a daily basis in between phone uses, there are so many things that you touch that you would never have thought twice about before. The things you touch most likely have many germs on their surfaces and will all continue to collect on your phone. I have heard that phones can carry more germs than toilet seats and door knobs. I don’t know how accurate that is but it’s enough for me to disinfect my phone regularly. It can be done with Clorox wipes. Ironically, if you look closely at a bottle of the Clorox wipes, the very first thing mentioned is that the wipes will help kill the germs associated with corona viruses.

It is also wise to go around the house and disinfect;

  • remotes controls
  • door handles
  • kitchen handles
  • table and counter tops
  • door knobs
  • sink knobs
  • chairs and couches
  • railings
  • car keys

…and whatever else you can think of that’s commonly touched.

I  just wanted to mention a few of things that maybe weren’t so obvious in the home but I will move to vehicle care – as far as disinfecting goes.

Don’t Forget Your Vehicle!

Your vehicle can have many “hot-spots” for collecting germs. The areas that are touched often in the vehicle aren’t thought about as often as areas in the home. Areas like the steering wheel, shifter, radio and other center console components, arm rests, door handles, mirrors, and especially floor mats (think of all the places your shoes have walked then gone straight to your floor mats) etc. The list goes on and on. Vehicles can easily be forgotten about when thinking about wanting to deep clean, disinfect and sterilize.

You want to be careful with the disinfectants that you use on the surfaces of your vehicle. In large or concentrated amounts, you can damage the surfaces of your vehicle. Especially if you have leather or other sensitive materials. Even using steam requires care and training. When used with the proper chemicals and proper tools that can be used with a steamer, germs can be dealt with inside your vehicle. Although, we do put a lot of attention on stains, smells, conditioning, shining, and cleaning to sell details, another one of the great aspects of getting a good detail is taking care of germs and sanitizing the interior of your vehicle. The different methods of what can be done with a steamer and correct chemicals can remedy a lot of problems or worries that you may have with germs.

Steam Cleaning & Hot Water Extraction

Vehicle Interior Steam Cleaning

Vehicle Interior Steam Cleaning

When you think about what steam is, it is formed from water that has been heated to a degree that turns it into basically a hot gas that, when used correctly, can accomplish many things from cleaning, removing stains, softening messes, and killing germs and eliminating viruses. Along with steam some viruses do require extra extra disinfectants and sanitizing chemicals to be fully neutralized.

The fabrics in your vehicle can be areas that germs and other unwanted contaminants can easily absorb themselves into and set up camp. Although smells, stains, and germs can be easily absorbed by fabrics they can just as easily be removed if addressed properly and in a timely manner. Using a hot-water extraction method with the proper chemicals; stains, smells, and germs can be taken out of fabrics fairly quickly and easily.

These many years of detailing has made our company become very experienced and efficient in the process and how we do things. Before modern detailing tools we started out using small paint brushes and toothbrushes to get to ‘hard-to-reach’ areas – and sometimes we still weren’t even able to do the job we wanted to do. Now we have specialized tools and steamers to help better clean and sanitize. We used to have to hand scrub floor mats before washing them off. Now we have a brush that is attached to a drill that cuts scrubbing time in half and enables us to do twice as good of a job. We used to use tap water that would add time to the job because of needing to dry and avoid hard-water spots. Now we use soft water, making it much more efficient for us, it will cut drying time and allow for easier cleaning. Our extractors used to be small and not heated. Now we use much more powerful extractors that heat the water allowing us to penetrate areas and break up dirt and grease we wouldn’t have been able to get to very easily and clean much better using the hot water.

As you can see, the detailing world is constantly changing and advancing. We haven’t only done this for ourselves to make our jobs easier but we have also done it so that we could do a better job for our customers. We are continuing to push forward through this pandemic and will continue to do what we can to make sure we are serving you and making any necessary changes that we need to to continue serving you to the best of our ability. We know these are trying times and we wish everyone the best. We also know more people are thinking of staying clean and when it comes to your vehicle, we’d love to be able to give you the piece of mind that comes with having a clean vehicle. Especially if that vehicle is being used frequently. Let us know how we can help. Stay safe and as always, safe travels (as soon as we can all travel again)!

How to Make Your Detail Contactless

Within a matter of weeks we have gone from an outgoing society to an enclosed one, with shops, parks, restaurants and many other places bearing new restrictions or not being open to the public at all.  While we at Onsite Detail have also felt the impact, we are happy to share we are still in operation! Our mobile detailing services are still active and our phone and email lines are open to help you schedule appointments, request quotes, and ask questions.

Like other companies that come to you, we are also open to Contact-free appointments. This does not mean we don’t touch the cars but we can have a no physical contact detail with each vehicle owner. This article will help explain the best ways to go about doing this as well as why detailing during Stay Home Stay Safe may be a good idea for you.

Setting Up an Appointment

When setting up an appointment there are a few different ways to let us know you want your detail to be Contact-Free.

If making an appointment by phone, simply mention it to the person scheduling you.  The scheduler may ask questions like where the vehicle will be, if it will be unlocked, where keys will be for access, and the best way to contact you during the service if the detailer needs to get a hold of you.

If making an appointment online via the Request Form, simply put in the notes that you would like a Contact-Free service.  We will reply with similar questions to make sure your appointment goes smoothly. Texts, requests through social media and other contacts will likely lead to you being directed to either method of requesting an appointment, as they are our more thorough ways of getting in touch with you.  Our doors will be locked until further notice, so walk-ins will not be available. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Note: If you are asking for a Contact-Free service, we will be restricted to taking card payments.  Cash and checks would likely require some level of contact. If making an appointment by phone we can put a card on your account to use later (it would not be charged until the invoice was reviewed with you).

During the Appointment

The detailer will be notified in advance that you have requested a Contact-Free detail and will text or call you when on the way.  This way you have access to their number if you need to speak to each other. In the case they are not responsive you can call or text the main office line and the at-home administrative staff can help you.

Before the detail, remove any items you would not want the detailer to handle (not as necessary if you are doing exterior-only work).  Check your glove box, cupholders, pockets, under seats and between seats. Remove anything from the trunk. If items are left, the detailer will handle them with a separate set of gloves and set them aside.

The detailer will call or text you during the appointment with questions or to tell you their progress, so keep your phone available and charged- some appointments can last a few hours.

After the Service

When done, the detailer can review the cost of the service with you by phone.  If you have a card on file feel free to let them know they can charge it. If there are any issues you can call us at the main office line and we will gladly assist you.  In the rare case that there is an issue with the service, you can text photos to the same office number and we will help you get them resolved.

Alternatives and Why Detail Now

We understand that even if you’re staying at home scheduling a detail can be one more hassle you don’t want to deal with right now.  If you are considering a service but don’t want to schedule right away or know someone who could use a detail but is too busy to call, consider buying yourself or a friend a Gift Certificate.  (Gift Certificates for vehicle details can make a great gift for those working on the front lines like healthcare workers, grocery store employees, and other essential workers.)

In this pandemic our cars are more valuable than ever.  They help transfer us to medical centers, drive thrus, and our jobs in the cases of essential workers.  Vehicles are a safe way for us to mobilize when being around others isn’t safe. Keeping them clean not only helps us stay healthy physically, it helps us stay healthy mentally.  This time is stressful enough- let us take care of the details.

We at Onsite Detail ask that you stay safe, and we hope to hear from you soon!
